Yoga Therapy for Diabetes & Obesity

Learn how Yoga can be used as a therapeutic tool to assist people with diabetes and obesity, with Dr. Shirley Telles, leading Yoga therapist, medical doctor, neurophysiologist, and world famous Yoga researcher, in this half-day workshop on Yoga Therapy for Diabetes and Obesity.

Obesity and diabetes have increased the world over. The two often go together and both of them are associated with several undesirable complications, some of which can be fatal. Recent studies have shown that Yoga is especially useful for type 2 diabetes mellitus but is also useful (to a certain, more limited extent) in type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Yoga can reduce the body mass index in the obese. Further exploration of how this occurs, suggests that Yoga practice may influence certain chemicals secreted by the body, which influence the sense of satisfaction or hunger at the level of the brain. Therefore, Yoga practice may be able to bring about a long lasting change by modifying the attitude towards eating and the satisfaction derived from it.
