Yoga and Fibromyalgia Workshop

WITH ALICE WILLENBROCK | FROM $129 | 1.5 HOURS | 1.5 CPD POINTS

Learn how Yoga can be used a therapeutic tool to manage Fibromyalgia in this workshop with Alice Willenbrock, Yoga therapist and exercise scientist. A guide to working with clients with fibromyalgia and how Yoga can help.

The Yoga and Fibromyalgia workshop will give you an introduction to fibromyalgia and provide a guide for Yoga therapists and Yoga teachers working with clients and students presenting with fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that is characterised by widespread musculoskeletal pain and increased sensitivity to pain. It is often accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. There is no cure. Symptoms are managed with movement therapy, medication, psychological and behavioural therapies. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals.

Estimates are that as many as 1 million Australians (3-5%) experience this chronic pain condition. (1)

Yoga therapy can make a difference for those experiencing fibromyalgia. Yoga therapy can offer those with fibromyalgia very subtle tools and techniques to slowly increase movement tolerance while building resilience and strength from the inside out. Yoga therapy can offer a way to rebuild confidence in one’s ability to cope. Over time, Yoga therapy can help a person build capacity so they can start to implement lifestyle adjustments, which can lead to an improvement in symptoms.

Alice Willenbrock is an experienced Yoga therapist, Exercise Scientist, Nutritionist, Personal Trainer and Movement therapist. Alice was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2019 after seeing many specialists. Alice consistently applies Yoga therapy in her own practice to calm the nervous system and improve her symptoms.

“This was a very worthwhile workshop for yoga teachers and yoga therapists as well as Allied Health Practitioners.” Madeleine Sheldon
