In this Inflammation and Yoga workshop you will learn why it is so important to understand the role of inflammation in health. You will learn how Yoga reduces inflammation. This workshop with Liz Williams, experienced health educator and Yoga therapist, will also cover the role of inflammation in chronic disease and ageing.

Liz Williams is really passionate about this area of Yoga and health research. In this workshop, Liz takes this cutting edge research and applies it to Yoga practice.

Research into both inflammation and chronic disease and research into Yoga and inflammation has increased exponentially in recent years.

Growing evidence shows there is a strong association with Non-infectious Inflammatory Disease (N-iID) and the exacerbation of chronic conditions typically attributed to the aging process. These chronic health conditions include diabetes, metabolic syndrome, neurological syndromes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, and others.

Inflammaging and senescence are buzz words that you may be familiar with.

Inflammaging is a term used to describe the chronic, low-level inflammation that occurs as people age.

Senescence refers to the gradual deterioration of cellular function and the biological processes that occur as we age. Senescence can contribute to tissue degeneration and inflammation.

Old or damaged cells are usually removed from the tissues by an inflammatory process. This process occurs throughout life. However, any trauma that increases the inflammatory process will increase the number of senescent cells and if these cells are not effectively removed, N-iID will develop. The association between N-iID and aging is becoming more evident.

Now that scientists have found a link between Senescence and N-iID, it has opened the door to a plethora of research interventions and other interventions.

I would highly recommend this workshop for an easy to understand scientific explanation of inflammation and how yoga support the body’s natural healing processes to prevent chronic disease.
– Sylvia DeAngelis, Yoga teacher

You will learn how a Yoga practice reduces chronic inflammation and learn what kinds of evidence informed, Yoga practices can assist with reducing chronic inflammation.
