As part of our series on Careers in Yoga therapy, Trina Bawden-Smith interviewed Yen. Yen is based in Manila in the Philippines.
Yen has been offering Yoga to women living in shelters, who are survivors of trafficking, for more than 20 years. She also works with children who have been sexually exploited. In addition to this work, she has also started projects to bring therapeutic Yoga to underserved populations, including schools for students where there is a high suicide rate.
She said, “I am currently in partnership with groups and institutions that are working with women and children, victims, and survivors of gender based violence, particularly trafficking, online sexual exploitation, and prostitution. We also work with people with disabilities and with elderly people.” She also works with people deprived of liberty including in a women’s prison and with children who are in conflict with the law.
Yen’s work is inspirational and we are so proud of the work she is doing and how she is making a difference in her community.
In this video, Yen talks about her Yoga therapy works and she shares how her Yoga teaching has evolved since becoming a Yoga therapist.
