The Yoga and Stroke workshop is presented by Dr. Maarten A. Immink, neurocognitive scientist, educator and experienced Yoga teacher.
The workshop is an expert informed and evidence-based workshop that integrates yoga therapy and neurorehabilitation to address stroke prevention and recovery. Maarten will draw on over a decade of research – including ongoing studies led by himself.
Participants will explore how yoga supports neuroplastic changes in stroke survivors while gaining practical tools to adapt practices for varying needs and abilities.
The workshop covers three key areas:
- understanding the risk and impact of stroke and how yoga can help reduce stroke risk;
- adapting yoga for survivors’ whole-person, biopsychosocial needs and;
- evaluating clinical evidence alongside lived experience.
Dr. Immink shares direct insights from his research and first-hand experience as a yoga teacher, offering applicable and actionable strategies for safe, effective practice and teaching.
Through presentations and Q&A, participants will deepen their ability to support stroke survivors with evidence-based, whole-person approaches. The workshop emphasises both science and compassionate application, empowering attendees to promote meaningful reconnection through yoga in those at risk of stroke or stroke survivors.
